Assorted Thoughts

Just some random things I’ve been thinking about lately: A deep dive into Tarantino’s oeuvre. I went to see Once Upon A Time in Hollywood last night and it was fantastic; it made me want to (re)watch all of his movies. How much of an introvert am I really? Until six-ish years ago, I never thought of myself as an introvert (or as an extrovert). Then a coworker gave me that label and I believed in it, even though any introversion was situational and relative. Introversion and extroversion are part of a spectrum rather than absolutes, and I’ve been realizing … Continue reading Assorted Thoughts

Exit Strategy

My favorite genre of people-watching is bad first dates. I’m particularly fascinated when there’s a vast imbalance in terms of interest levels, and often wish I could conduct post-game interviews with each of the players: Where was your head at in that moment? Last Friday, I was on one of those dates, and while it was easily one of the worst I’ve been on (I’d say top five, if I were to rank bad dates), it was initially promising. Where I’ve Been

I started this blog approximately 22 months ago with lofty intentions, then proceeded to write five posts over the next three months before abandoning it until yesterday. I figure it’s time for a bit of an update. When I started, I was 45 days into my “sabbatical” – I had quit my job and was traveling and generally decompressing. I wrote the fifth post on the eve of a month-long ski trip during which I launched a consulting business. It started with just a couple of freelance projects to offset the cost of my season pass, then turned into a … Continue reading Where I’ve Been

Everything I Read in July

As much as I love my Kindle for travel and bedtime reading, I can’t seem to walk into a bookstore without buying three new books; the result is a book pile that’s getting out of control. I’ve been slowly chipping away at it over the past few months, and thought I’d share my July reads here; this feels particularly apt given that my last post (a whopping 578 days ago) was also a reading list. She Regrets Nothing, by Andrea Dunlop At her mother’s funeral, Laila Lawrence meets the glamorous cousins she didn’t know she had. Drawn in by their … Continue reading Everything I Read in July

Gift Guide #2: For the Guys

My brother and dad are consistently the hardest people on my list to shop for; they already have everything (and I do mean everything) they need for their hobbies, and typical men’s gift guides seem to have a far different type of man in mind than the ones in my life. I’ve learned to think creatively about gifts for them, and have shared a few of my favorite ideas below; please share yours in the comments! Gear for Man’s Best Friend If there are dog parents on your Christmas list, gifts for their pups are a great way to go. BarkBox … Continue reading Gift Guide #2: For the Guys
